Registered nurses who are licensed in another state can apply for licensure by endorsement to the DC Board of Nursing, a division within the DC Department of Health, Health Regulation and Licensing Administration (HRLA). 2. After receipt, just return the completed application within 3-5 days, including two 2”x2” passport photos, a copy of your driver’s license or other government-issued ID, a copy of a completed Nursys license endorsement to the District of Columbia, and a $230 check, using the prepaid FedEx envelope.
3. Visit the DC Board of Nursing website, register for a background check, and pay a $50 fee. Then follow the directions to schedule and complete electronic fingerprinting through a local FieldPoint office.

Is Washington D.C. a compact state? Washington D.C. is not a Compact State. The District of Columbia is not yet part of the Nurse Licensure Compact, the multi-state agreement sponsored by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). Nurses with a compact state license will still need to apply for DC nurse licensure by endorsement.
